چکیده

Glyphosate herbicide is one the most toxic pollutants for aquatic ecosystem. Changes in serum concentrations of growth hormone (GH) and muscle protein content in O. niloticus treated with different concentrations of glyphosate herbicide under laboratory conditions were evaluated. Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (mean initial weight of 57.61 ± 4.8g and initial length 14.87±1.7cm) were exposed to different concentrations of Roundup, a glyphosate (acid equivalent) herbicide: 0 (control), 1, 3, and 5 mg/L for 96 h (short-term) of exposure. Unexposed fish (control) exhibited significantly higher serum GH levels (p<0.05) compared to treated fish. The GH levels and muscle protein content decreased significantly with increasing glyphosate concentrations. GH levels and muscle protein percentage may be the good early indicators of herbicide contamination in tilapia species.

Effect of reducing 3.2% dietary protein level on the growth performance and immunity of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with supplementation of multi amino acids

Reducing dietary protein content in fish feeds will reduce cost of production if growth performance can be maintained. In this study, we assessed the effects of reduced dietary protein content from 33.5% to 27.4% with ideal amino acids profile on the growth, immune parameters, intestinal microvilli length and total ammonia nitrogen discharge of tilapia. After 8 weeks of feeding, growth performa...

Cortisol Response in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L., Following Acute Exposure to a Glyphosate-based Herbicide

Glyphosate-based herbicides are widely used in agricultural fields and are commonly applied in fish ponds to control algae and plant growth. Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L., fingerlings exposed to the highest sublethal concentrations of glyphosate alone experienced an increase in cortisol levels that was similar to the value found in the stressed group. In contrast, fingerlings exposed t...

The effect of black glutinous rice bran (Oryza sativa L.) in diets of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

The effect of black glutinous rice bran inclusion used in diets of Nile tilapia was  studied in fish with an initial weight of 8.76±0.17g per fish and fed with experimental diets supplemented with black glutinous rice bran at 0 (control), 50, 100, 150 and 200 g kg-1 for 60 days. The results of phytochemical analyses of black rice bran showed that the total anthocyanin, phenolic, tannin and phyt...

Potentiality of Moringa oleifera aqueous extract as a growth modulator and antistress in acute hypoxic Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus

This study aims to get a comprehensive evaluation of the growth promoting effects and the hypoxic stress relief potentiality of Moringa oleifera aqueous extracts. Oreochromis niloticus fingerlings were arbitrarily allocated into five duplicated fish groups (30 fish tank-1). The fish groups were labeled according to the M. oleifera aqueous extract dietary inclusion level (G1:G5). MOAE had fundam...
